Chapter 4. Uniform Judicial Notice of Foreign Law Act

Judicial notice by Indiana courts
Sec. 1. Every court in Indiana shall take judicial notice of thecommon law and statutes of every state, territory, and otherjurisdiction of the United States.

Information to court
Sec. 2. The court may inform itself of such laws in the manner asthe court considers proper. The court may call upon counsel to aidthe court in obtaining this information.

Court determination; review
Sec. 3. The determination of these laws shall be made by the courtand not by the jury, and is reviewable.

Evidence of laws in other jurisdictions; notice to adverse parties
Sec. 4. Any party may also present to the trial court anyadmissible evidence of such laws, but, to enable a party to offerevidence of the law in another jurisdiction or to ask that judicialnotice be taken of the evidence, reasonable notice shall be given tothe adverse parties, either in the pleadings or otherwise.

Laws of other jurisdictions
Sec. 5. The law of a jurisdiction other than those referred to insection 1 of this chapter shall be an issue for the court, but shall notbe subject to sections 1, 2, 3, and 4 of this chapter concerningjudicial notice.

Interpretation and construction of chapter
Sec. 6. This chapter shall be interpreted and construed as toeffectuate its general purpose to make uniform the law of those statesthat enact it.

Citation
Sec. 7. This chapter may be cited as the Uniform Judicial Notice
