Chapter 17.5. Pre-Planning Inspections

"Fire department" defined
Sec. 1. As used in this chapter, "fire department" has the meaningset forth in IC 36-8-17-2.

"Pre-planning inspection" defined
Sec. 2. As used in this chapter, "pre-planning inspection" meansan inspection of a Class 1 structure (as defined in IC 22-12-1-4) in aplace or public way performed by the fire department to determinefirefighting strategies necessary to minimize the hazard tofirefighters responding to any fire or explosion at the structure,including:
(1) identifying the structural components, contents, andoperations, including:
(A) floor plans; and
(B) the location of:
(i) employees;
(ii) fire alarm and suppression systems;
(iii) entrances and exits; and
(iv) utilities; and
(2) identifying and locating hazardous materials.

Places subject to inspections
Sec. 3. A fire department may make a pre-planning inspection ofevery place and public way within the jurisdiction of the politicalsubdivision that the fire department serves, except the interiors ofprivate dwellings, for the purpose of advising the fire department onissues affecting a fire suppression response.

Access for inspections
Sec. 4. (a) A fire department shall be allowed entry and access toevery place or public way within the jurisdiction of the politicalsubdivision that the fire department serves, except the interiors ofprivate dwellings, for the purpose of making a pre-planninginspection under this chapter.
(b) A fire department shall notify the occupant or owner of aClass 1 structure seven (7) days in advance of performing apre-planning inspection. The notification may be oral or in writing.
