    Chapter 1. General Provisions

IC 4-33-1-1
Application of article
    
Sec. 1. This article applies only to the following:
        (1) Counties contiguous to Lake Michigan.
        (2) A county that is:
            (A) contiguous to the Ohio River; and
            (B) described in IC 4-33-6-1(a)(5).
        (3) A county that contains a historic hotel district.

Legislative intent
    
Sec. 2. This article is intended to benefit the people of Indiana bypromoting tourism and assisting economic development. The public'sconfidence and trust will be maintained only through:
        (1) comprehensive law enforcement supervision; and
        (2) the strict regulation of facilities, persons, associations, andgambling operations under this article.

Exemption from provisions
    
Sec. 4. Pursuant to 15 U.S.C. 1172, approved January 2, 1951, thestate of Indiana, acting by and through duly elected and qualifiedmembers of the legislature, does declare and proclaim that the stateis exempt from the provisions of 15 U.S.C. 1172.

Shipments of gambling devices
    
Sec. 5. All shipments of gambling devices, including slotmachines, to an operating agent or a licensed riverboat in Indiana, theregistering, recording, and labeling of which have been completed bythe manufacturer or dealer thereof in accordance with 15 U.S.C.1171 through 1178, are legal shipments of gambling devices intoIndiana.As added by P.L.20-1995, SEC.3.
