Chapter 3. Preference for Appointment of Veterans

Civil offices
Sec. 1. Persons honorably discharged from the military or navalservice of the United States, by reason of disability resulting fromwounds or sickness incurred in the line of duty, shall be preferred forappointment to civil offices, provided they are found to possess thecapacity necessary for the proper discharge of such offices.

Preference points
Sec. 2. (a) Political subdivisions of the state of Indiana shall allowpreference points to eligible armed forces veterans who are beingexamined for full time employment. Preference points awarded tosuch veterans on each such examination shall be ten percent (10%)of the total number of points which may be obtained thereon.
(b) To be eligible to receive preference points, under this chapter,a person must have:
(1) served on active duty in the armed forces of the UnitedStates for at least one hundred eighty-one (181) days; and
(2) received an honorable discharge.
(c) The provisions of this chapter are in lieu of any policy of apolitical subdivision allowing employment preference for veteransin effect before July 1, 1975.
