    Chapter 15. Bistate Purchase of Wabash River Bridge

Sec. 1. Subject to the provisions of this chapter, the department ishereby authorized and empowered to enter into negotiations with theproper authority having control of the state highways of the state ofIllinois, and with the owners of the bridge which spans the WabashRiver and over which State Highway No. 66 passes from this stateinto the state of Illinois, for the purpose of acquiring the ownershipof and title to such bridge, jointly, by the state of Illinois and thestate of Indiana.

Sec. 2. If the proper authorities of the state of Illinois areempowered by the laws of the state of Illinois to enter into suchnegotiations, and if the department and the authority having chargeof the state highways of the state of Illinois can agree with theowners of such bridge on the purchase-price of such bridge, then andin that event the department is hereby authorized and empowered toacquire the ownership of and the title to such bridge, jointly, with thestate of Illinois, to pay not to exceed fifty percent (50%) of thepurchase-price agreed upon, out of any funds appropriated to thedepartment which might otherwise be used for the construction ofbridges, and to enter into such agreements with the proper authoritiesof the state of Illinois as may be fair and equitable for the repair,maintenance and upkeep of such bridge, and to expend such amountsof money as may be necessary to maintain such bridge.
