Chapter 29. Environmental License Plates

Design and issuance
Sec. 1. The bureau of motor vehicles shall design and issue anenvironmental license plate. The environmental license plate shall bedesigned and issued as a special group recognition license plateunder IC 9-18-25.

Contents
Sec. 2. An environmental license plate designed under IC 9-18-25must include the following:
(1) A basic design for the plate with consecutive numbers orletters, or both, to properly identify the vehicle.
(2) A background design, an emblem, or colors that designatethe license plate as an environmental license plate.
(3) Any other information the bureau considers necessary.

Eligibility requirements
Sec. 3. A person who is eligible to register a vehicle under thistitle is eligible to receive an environmental license plate under thischapter upon doing the following:
(1) Completing an application for an environmental licenseplate.
(2) Paying the appropriate fee under section 4 of this chapter.

Fees
Sec. 4. (a) The fee for an environmental license plate is asfollows:
(1) The appropriate fee under IC 9-29-5-38.
(2) An annual fee of twenty-five dollars ($25).
(b) The annual fee referred to in subsection (a)(2) shall becollected by the bureau of motor vehicles commission.

Annual fees; special fund
Sec. 5. (a) The annual fee described in section (4)(a)(2) of thischapter shall be deposited with the treasurer of state in a specialfund.
(b) The auditor of state shall monthly distribute the money in thespecial fund established under subsection (a) to the Indiana heritagetrust fund established by IC 14-12-2-25.As added by P.L.69-1992, SEC.1. Amended by P.L.1-1995, SEC.58.

Corporations, partnerships, and proprietorships
Sec. 6. (a) A corporation (as defined in IC 6-5.5-1-6), a municipalcorporation (as defined in IC 36-1-2-10), a partnership (as defined inIC 6-3-1-19), or a sole proprietor that registers a vehicle under thistitle is eligible to receive an environmental license plate under thischapter.
(b) A corporation, partnership, or sole proprietor must complywith section 3 of this chapter to receive an environmental licenseplate.
(c) This subsection applies only to a license plate issued underIC 9-18-3-5(b). If an officer or employee of a municipal corporationrequests an environmental license plate for a vehicle that is assignedto or customarily used by the officer or employee, the officer oremployee is responsible for paying the annual fee for theenvironmental license plate under section 4(2) of this chapter, theannual supplemental fee under IC 9-29-5-38, and all annualregistration fees under IC 9-29-1-4, IC 9-29-3-17, IC 9-29-5-1, andIC 9-29-5-3.
(d) Notwithstanding subsection (c):
(1) an environmental license plate that is issued under thissection; and
(2) all fees and taxes that have been paid to have the plateissued;
are considered issued to and paid by the corporation, municipalcorporation, partnership, or sole proprietor that registered the vehiclefor which the plate was issued, and the corporation, municipalcorporation, partnership, or sole proprietor is entitled to retainpossession of the plate.
