    Chapter 13. Special Restrictions Concerning Semitrailers

Maximum length limitations; truck-tractor-semitrailer-semitrailercombinations
    Sec. 1. Notwithstanding IC 9-20-1-1 through IC 9-20-1-2, andexcept for length exclusive devices in accordance with 23 CFR658.13, the following are the maximum limitations on length of atruck-tractor-semitrailer-semitrailer combination:
        (1) The maximum length of each semitrailer unit operating in atruck-tractor-semitrailer-semitrailer combination is twenty-eight(28) feet, six (6) inches.
        (2) A maximum length limit is not imposed on atruck-tractor-semitrailer-semitrailer combination.

    Sec. 2. (a) Notwithstanding IC 9-20-3 and IC 9-20-9, and exceptfor length exclusive devices in accordance with 23 CFR 658.13, thefollowing are the maximum limitations on length of a truck-tractor,semitrailer, truck-tractor-semitrailer combination, ortruck-tractor-semitrailer-trailer combination:
        (1) The maximum length of the semitrailer unit operating in atruck-tractor-semitrailer combination is fifty-three (53) feet,including the vehicle and the load.
        (2) The maximum length of the semitrailer unit or traileroperating in a truck-tractor-semitrailer-trailer combination istwenty-eight (28) feet, six (6) inches.
        (3) A maximum overall length limit is not imposed on atruck-tractor-semitrailer or truck-tractor-semitrailer-trailercombination.
        (4) The maximum length of a maxi-cube vehicle combinationis sixty-five (65) feet, and the maximum length of the separablecargo carrying unit is thirty-four (34) feet.
    (b) This section does not prohibit the transportation of a motorvehicle or boat on part of a truck-tractor.

Width or length exclusive devices; prohibition on use
    Sec. 3. A width or length exclusive device described in IC 9-20-3,IC 9-20-9, or section 2 of this chapter must not be designed or usedto support cargo.

IC 9-20-13-4 Semitrailers in excess of 48 feet, 6 inches; restrictions on operation
    Sec. 4. Notwithstanding section 2 of this chapter, a semitrailerlonger than forty-eight (48) feet, six (6) inches, may be operated ona highway designated as part of the state highway system underIC 8-23-4 only if the distance between the kingpin and the rearmostaxle of the semitrailer is not more than forty-three (43) feet.
