Chapter 2. Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devicesfor Streets and Highways

Creation
Sec. 1. The Indiana department of transportation shall adopt theIndiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets andHighways by order of the commissioner of the Indiana department oftransportation with a letter of concurrence from the Federal HighwayAdministration.

Conformance with other state and federally approved manuals
Sec. 2. The Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devicesfor Streets and Highways must substantially conform with theManual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets andHighways, 1961 Edition, and the Manual for Signing and PavementMarking for the National System for Interstate and DefenseHighways, 1962 Edition, and all other manuals and revisions to themanuals that have the approval of the Federal HighwayAdministrator.

Revisions to manual; approval by department of transportation
Sec. 3. All manuals (including revisions to the manuals) describedin section 2 of this chapter may be considered to become a part of theIndiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets andHighways if the following conditions exist:
(1) The Indiana department of transportation concurs in therevisions.
(2) The Indiana department of transportation adopts themanuals (including revisions) by order of the commissioner ofthe Indiana department of transportation.

Adoption of control devices where federal standards are silent
Sec. 4. The Indiana department of transportation may add controldevices to the state manual in those areas where the federal standardsare silent.
