Chapter 5. Reciprocity Enforcement

Imposition and collection of fees
Sec. 1. If by the laws of any other state, commonwealth, Districtof Columbia, or foreign country or its political subdivisions, anytaxes, fees, charges, penalties, obligations, prohibitions, restrictions,or limitations of any kind are imposed upon the vehicles of residentsof Indiana in addition to those imposed by Indiana upon the vehiclesof residents of the other state, commonwealth, District of Columbia,or foreign country or its political subdivisions, the bureau, with theapproval of the governor, may impose and collect fees or charges ina like amount and provide for similar obligations, prohibitions,restrictions, or limitations upon the owner or operator of a vehicleregistered in the other state, commonwealth, District of Columbia, orforeign country or its political subdivisions as long as the laws of theother state, commonwealth, District of Columbia, or foreign countryor its political subdivisions requiring the imposition remain in forceand effect. All taxes, fees, charges, and penalties collected in thismanner shall be paid into the state highway fund.

Rules; adoption and enforcement
Sec. 2. The bureau may adopt and enforce rules under IC 4-22-2to carry out the provisions of this chapter.

Motor carrier regulations; inapplicability of chapter
Sec. 3. This chapter does not apply to fees and charges imposedunder IC 8-2.1.
