§ 10.1-2201. Department created; appointment of Director; Director to serveas State Historic Preservation Officer.

There is hereby created a Department of Historic Resources. The Departmentshall be headed by a Director.

The Director shall be appointed by the Governor to serve at his pleasure fora term coincident with his own. The Director shall be subject toconfirmation by the General Assembly if it is in session when the appointmentis made, and if not then in session, at the next succeeding session.

The Director shall also serve as the State Historic Preservation Officer forthe purposes of carrying out the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966(P.L. 89-665), as amended.
