The local director of social services shall be head of the department ofsocial services, and shall be chosen from a list of eligibles furnished bythe Commissioner of Social Services. He shall have charge of poor relief andcharitable institutions; may, at the discretion of the board, have charge ofparks and playgrounds; shall exercise the powers conferred and perform theduties imposed by general law upon the local board of social services, notinconsistent herewith; and shall perform such other duties the board imposesupon him.
A local board of social services shall be appointed pursuant to theprovisions of § 63.2-303.
