§ 17.1-211. Maintenance and disposition of certain receipt books, cancelledchecks and statements.

The clerk of each court of record shall maintain in his office all officialreceipt books showing receipt of any funds in his custody or that of thecourt, all canceled checks showing payments from any such funds, and allstatements of bank accounts in which funds of the clerk's office or of thecourt are deposited. Such books, checks and statements shall be maintaineduntil they have been audited by the Auditor of Public Accounts, and for afurther period of three years, in the case of receipt books, canceled checks,and bank statements. Thereafter, the clerk may destroy such records inaccordance with retention regulations for records maintained by the clerkestablished under the Virginia Public Records Act (§ 42.1-76 et seq.).
