§ 22.1-341. Supervision of Department; composition of Board; terms andvacancies.

The Board of the Rehabilitative School Authority is continued and shallhereafter be known as the Board of Correctional Education. The supervision ofthe Department shall be vested in the Board of Correctional Education. TheBoard shall be composed of seven members who shall be appointed by theGovernor, subject to confirmation by the General Assembly. In makingappointments, the Governor shall endeavor to select appointees of suchqualifications and experience necessary to ensure that membership of theBoard includes persons suitably qualified to consider and act upon thevarious matters under the Board's jurisdiction.

Members shall be appointed for terms of four years each except that whenevera vacancy occurs other than by expiration of a term, the Governor shallappoint a member for the remainder of that term. No member shall serve morethan two consecutive four-year terms.

The Director of the Department of Corrections or his designee, the Directorof Juvenile Justice or his designee, the director of Career and TechnicalEducation in the Department of Education or his designee, the AssistantSuperintendent for Special Education and Student Services in the Departmentof Education or his designee, and the Chancellor of the Virginia CommunityCollege System or his designee shall serve as ex officio members without vote.
