§ 22.1-51. Appointment and terms in City of Norfolk.

Notwithstanding the provisions of the charter of the City of Norfolk, theschool board of the City of Norfolk shall consist of seven members to beappointed by the city council from the city at large. Members shall beappointed to serve for terms of two years beginning on July 1 except thatinitial appointments shall be staggered so that the terms of four membersexpire in odd-numbered years and the terms of three members expire ineven-numbered years. Any vacancy occurring on the school board other than byexpiration of term shall be filled by the council for the unexpired term.
