§ 23-38.9. Soil scientist scholarships; relief from obligation of contract.

The contract shall have a clause under which the holder may be relieved ofhis obligation to serve the Commonwealth as a soil scientist at any time theholder fails to maintain a scholastic standard at least equal to the standardrequired of the general student body in such school, or if the holder, at anytime, becomes permanently disabled so as not to be able to engage in theprofession of soil scientist. In such case, the contract shall provide thatupon certificate of a faculty committee, the holder shall be relieved of hisobligation to serve the Commonwealth as a soil scientist for a period equalto that during which he has been a beneficiary of such scholarship. Anyapplicant, upon being so relieved from the obligations imposed by suchcontract, shall arrange to reimburse the Commonwealth for the amount he hasreceived on account of such scholarship plus interest on such amount computedat the prevailing rate charged on student loans at the school attended by theapplicant. Provided, however, if such applicant, or any applicant who for anyreason repays all or any part of the amount received of such scholarships,after reimbursing such amount plus interest to the Commonwealth, laterfulfills the terms of his contract by completing his studies and serving theCommonwealth as a soil scientist for a period equal to that during which hereceived such scholarship, such applicant shall have reimbursed to him, fromthe general fund of the state treasury, the amount of the scholarship andinterest previously repaid to the Commonwealth. This reimbursement shall bemade on any contract made under the provisions of this section.
