§ 3.2-2101. Sheep Industry Board; composition and appointmentof members; quorum.

The Sheep Industry Board, established by the passage of areferendum held pursuant to Chapter 691 of the 1995 Acts of Assembly, iscontinued within the Department.

The Sheep Industry Board shall consist of 12 membersrepresenting the sheep industry and industry support services. The Governorshall appoint 12 individuals from nominations submitted by the Virginia SheepProducers Association, Virginia sheep and wool marketing organizations, orother Virginia farm organizations representing sheep producers. One membershall represent the packing/processing/retailing segment of the industry, oneshall represent the Virginia Livestock Markets Association, and one shall representthe purebred segment of the industry. The remaining nine members shall beappointed by the Governor as follows in accordance with § 3.2-2110, with nomore than one member appointed per locality: three members who reside in theSouthwest District; three members who reside in the Valley District; twomembers who reside in the Northern District; and one member who resides in theSouth Central District. In addition, the extension sheep specialist fromVirginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and the Commissioner shallserve as nonvoting members. Seven members of the Sheep Industry Board shallconstitute a quorum for the transaction of business.
