§ 32.1-321.1. Powers and duties of Department.

The Department of Medical Assistance Services shall have the following powersand duties:

1. To investigate and refer for prosecution violations of applicable stateand federal laws and regulations pertaining to the application for andreceipt of services or benefits;

2. To investigate and refer for civil recovery any debts owed to the medicalassistance program or funds paid for services or benefits as a result ofviolations of applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining tothe application for and receipt of services or benefits; and

3. To cooperate with the federal government, other state agencies and theState Attorney General's Office in the detection and deterrence of fraud byrecipients of medical assistance or their agents.
