§ 38.2-2205.1. Suspension of liability coverage at insured's request.

A. Each insurer issuing or delivering a policy or contract of motor vehicleinsurance that includes coverage for bodily injury or property damageliability arising from the ownership, maintenance or use of any motor vehicleas provided in this chapter, shall suspend any coverage for any motor vehicleat the request of a named insured ordered to military duty outside thisCommonwealth, or his personal representative, during any period that themotor vehicle is impounded in a motor vehicle impound lot on a military baseof the United States Armed Forces, the Reserves of the United States ArmedForces or the National Guard. However, an insurer may decline to suspendsuch coverage (i) unless satisfactory evidence of such impoundment isfurnished to it, or (ii) if the period for which coverage suspension isrequested is less than thirty days. The suspended coverage shall bereinstated upon request of the named insured, or his personal representative,effective not earlier than the receipt of such request by the insurer or anyof its authorized representatives.

B. Any insurer suspending coverage pursuant to this section shall refund anyunearned premium to the named insured, or his personal representative, on apro rata basis.

C. The provisions of this section shall not alter or limit the insured'sobligations under Article 8 (§ 46.2-705 et seq.) of Chapter 6 of Title 46.2.
