§ 38.2-3418.2. Coverage of procedures involving bones and joints.

A. Each insurer proposing to issue individual or group accident and sicknessinsurance policies providing hospital, medical and surgical or major medicalcoverage on an expense-incurred basis, each corporation providing individualor group accident and sickness subscription contracts, and each healthmaintenance organization providing a health care plan for health careservices that provides coverage under such policy, contract or plan fordiagnostic and surgical treatment involving any bone or joint of the skeletalstructure shall not, under such policy, contract or plan delivered, issuedfor delivery or renewed in this Commonwealth on and after July 1, 1995,exclude coverage for such diagnostic and surgical treatment involving anybone or joint of the head, neck, face or jaw or impose limits that are morerestrictive than limits on coverage applicable to such treatment involvingany bone or joint of the skeletal structure if the treatment is requiredbecause of a medical condition or injury which prevents normal function ofthe joint or bone and is deemed medically necessary to attain functionalcapacity of the affected part.

B. The provisions of this section shall not apply to short-term travel,accident-only, limited or specified disease policies, or to short-termnonrenewable policies of not more than six months' duration.
