§ 53.1-22. Misdemeanant suspected of having contagious disease.

Whenever any court shall have reason to believe that a person convicted by itof a misdemeanor who is sentenced to serve time in a local correctionalfacility is afflicted with any contagious or infectious disease dangerous tothe public health, the court shall have such person examined by a licensedphysician or licensed nurse practitioner. If the examination reveals theperson is afflicted with such disease, the court may commit the persondirectly to the Department.
