§ 53.1-58. Highway employees as guards.

The Director, with the consent of the Commonwealth TransportationCommissioner, may appoint and authorize employees of the Department ofTransportation to act as guards of prisoners when such prisoners are at workon the roads under the jurisdiction of the Commonwealth Transportation Board.Such employees shall be deemed to be acting within the scope of theirofficial duties for the Board when acting as guards pursuant to this section.The Director may authorize such employees to carry firearms in accordancewith § 53.1-29.
