§ 55-294. Limitation on use of systems.

No coordinates based on the Virginia Coordinate systems, purporting to definethe position of a point on a land boundary, shall be presented to be recordedin any public land records or deed records unless such point is within twokilometers of a public or private monumented horizontal control stationestablished in conformity with the standards of accuracy and specificationsfor second-order, class II or better geodetic surveying as prepared andpublished by the Federal Geodetic Control Committee of the United StatesDepartment of Commerce. Standards and specifications of the Federal GeodeticControl Committee or its successor in force on the date of said survey shallapply. The publishing of the existing control stations, or the acceptancewith intent to publish the new established control stations, by the NationalOcean Survey/National Geodetic Survey will constitute evidence of adherenceto the Federal Geodetic Control Committee specifications. The two kilometerslimitation may be modified by a duly authorized state agency to meet localconditions. Nothing contained in this chapter shall be interpreted aspreventing the use of the Virginia Coordinate System in any unrecorded deeds,maps, or computations.
