§ 59.1-136.5. Reports of purchases by scrap metal processors.

If requested by the chief of police or other law-enforcement officer of thelocality in which the scrap metal processor conducts business, every scrapmetal processor conducting business in the locality shall furnish to thechief of police or other law-enforcement officer a report of all of the scrapmetal processor's purchases of nonferrous scrap, metal articles, andproprietary articles, excluding aluminum cans and interior household items.Each report shall (i) be submitted on the next business day following thedate of a purchase; (ii) include the seller's name, date of birth,identification number, address, height, and weight and the license number ofany motor vehicle in which the goods or things were delivered; and (iii) besubmitted in an electronic format if required by the locality in which thescrap metal processor conducts business, provided that if the localityrequires that reports be submitted in electronic format, scrap metalprocessors shall be given a period of not more than one year following thelocality's adoption of such a requirement to implement the requirement.
