§ 6.2-1527. (Effective October 1, 2010) Liens on household furniture.

No chattel mortgage or other lien on household furniture then in thepossession and use of the borrower given to secure any loan made by alicensee shall be valid unless it is in writing, signed in person by theborrower, and not by an attorney, or if the borrower is married unless it issigned in person by both husband and wife, and not by an attorney. Writtenassent of a spouse shall not be required when a husband and wife have beenliving separate and apart for a period of at least five months prior to thegiving of the mortgage or lien.
