§ 9.1-163. Definitions.

As used in this article, unless the context requires a different meaning:

"Detoxification center program" means any facility program or procedure forthe placement of public inebriates as an alternative to arresting and jailingsuch persons, for the purpose of monitoring the withdrawal from excessive useof alcohol.

"Public inebriate" means any person who is drunk in a public place andwould be subject to arrest for drunkenness under § 18.2-388 or localordinance established for the same offense.
