30:4C-24.Ā Application for care or custody of child, complaint, or petitionĀ for guardianship by Director of Welfare
Whenever the director of welfare of any county or municipality in this StateĀ shall be called upon to serve any child whose needs cannot properly be providedĀ for by financial assistance as made available by the laws of this State, suchĀ director shall, within 24 hours thereafter, give written notice thereof to theĀ Bureau of Childrens Services, and shall file an application for care orĀ custody, as provided in section 11 of this act, or shall file a complaint asĀ provided in section 12 of this act, or shall file a petition as provided inĀ section 15 of this act, as the situation of the child may require.Ā Such noticeĀ shall contain all available information concerning the child and hisĀ circumstances, which will enable the Bureau of Childrens Services to takeĀ proper action.Ā If the immediate needs of the child so require, the directorĀ shall provide for his care in a suitable place, approved with reasonableĀ promptness for that purpose by the bureau, paying therefor as a charge againstĀ county or municipal funds until such time as the child has been found eligibleĀ for care, custody or guardianship in accordance with the provisions of thisĀ act.
