The board of managers may require officers and employees whose continuous presence is deemed necessary, to reside at or contiguous to the institution andĀ by resolution, allow to such officer or employee maintenance and sustenance orĀ commutation thereof, in such amount or to such extent, as it shall in each caseĀ determine.
