40A:9-83.Ā Term of office of register of deeds and mortgages The register of deeds and mortgages shall be elected by the legal voters ofĀ the county for a term of 5 years.Ā He shall be commissioned by the Governor andĀ his commission shall be issued and bear date on January 1 next following hisĀ election, or if such date falls upon a Sunday, then on the following day.
