40:14B-12.Ā Separations from districts
The governing body of any municipality constituting less than the whole of the district of a municipal authority may at any time adopt an ordinance requesting that such municipality shall no longer be a part of such district, and if thereafter a copy of such ordinance duly certified by the appropriate officer of such municipality, together with a certified copy of a resolution ofĀ such municipal authority approving and consenting to such ordinance and statingĀ either that such municipal authority has no debts or obligations outstanding orĀ that all creditors or other obligees of such municipal authority have consentedĀ to such ordinance, shall be filed in the office of the Secretary of State, thenĀ from and after such filing the area within the territorial limits of suchĀ municipality shall not be part of such district.
