40:69A-43.1.Ā  Deputy director of department The director of each department in any city of the second class which, priorĀ  to the effective date of this amendatory and supplementary act, had adopted theĀ  form of government designated asĀ  "Mayor-Council Plan D" provided for inĀ  article 6 of the act to which this act is a supplement, may appoint a deputyĀ  director of his department who shall serve, and be removable at the pleasure ofĀ  the director, in the unclassified service of the civil service of the city andĀ  shall receive such salary as shall be fixed by the director with the approvalĀ  of the council.

No municipality shall adopt the provisions of this section on or after the effective date of this amendatory and supplementary act.
