44:1-64.Ā  Abolition of municipal almshouses when county relief undertaken When the care and maintenance of the permanent poor is undertaken and established by a county in lieu of municipal care of such persons, municipal almshouses, other than county almshouses or welfare-houses, shall be abolished,Ā  and the real and personal property which has been used for such purpose may beĀ  sold by the governing body and the proceeds thereof shall fall into theĀ  municipal treasury and be used to pay other expenses of the municipality in aĀ  manner otherwise lawful, or such land and premises may be put to other lawfulĀ  public use.Ā  Thereafter the expense of maintaining county almshouses orĀ  welfare-houses shall be a charge upon the county as provided in this chapter.
