52:27C-57.Ā Interpreting and administering code
The department, from time to time pursuant to such authority as may be granted it by the code and after having conducted hearings, (a) may interpret the code, (b) may investigate and prescribe tests or accept authoritative testsĀ to determine the strength and quality of structural materials and the efficiency and safety of appliances and devices and methods of construction andĀ may establish standards accordingly, and (c) may approve the use of structuralĀ materials, appliances, devices and methods of construction found to beĀ efficient and safe.
