49-1-219. Advisory guidelines for reporting DUI-related deaths of minors.

(a)  The commissioner of education, in consultation with the commissioner of safety, shall develop advisory guidelines for LEAs to use in developing a monthly report to inform high school students of any death of a person eighteen (18) years of age or younger reported under § 4-3-2014. The guidelines shall emphasize consultation at the local level with appropriate authorities.

(b)  The department of education may prepare and distribute to LEAs guidelines for informing high school students of any death of a person eighteen (18) years of age or younger reported under § 4-3-2014. Department guidelines shall include the following information related to any reported death:

     (1)  The nature of the vehicular accident;

     (2)  The victim's background; and

     (3)  The impact on the victim's family and friends.
