49-5-5501. Career level certificates for supervisors.

(a)  The state board of education shall issue three (3) levels of supervisor certificates:

     (1)  Career level I;

     (2)  Career level II; and

     (3)  Career level III.

(b)  (1)  Supervisors employed on July 1, 1984, shall be eligible to apply for career level certificates based on experience as set out in § 49-5-5005.

     (2)  Supervisors employed between July 1, 1984, and June 13, 1997, shall be eligible to apply for career level certificates based on the following:

          (A)  Career level I Employment for at least one (1) year as a supervisor and completion of requirements defined by the state board of education;

          (B)  Career level II Employment for at least three (3) years as a principal, assistant principal or supervisor, of which at least one (1) year must be as a supervisor; or

          (C)  Career level III Employment for at least five (5) years as a principal, assistant principal or supervisor, of which at least one (1) year must be as a supervisor.

(c)  The career ladder program shall be open to all persons who come within a well-defined job description for supervisors devised by the state board of education prior to July 1, 1984. It is the intent of the general assembly that only those supervisors involved in staff or curriculum development on a full-time basis be eligible for entry into the career ladder. Persons who work as supervisors under various federal projects and special education programs are also intended to be included.

(d)  Supervisors shall be entitled to undergo evaluation during the year in which they gain eligibility for career level I, II or III status based on experience as indicated in § 49-5-5005 or as indicated in subsection (b).
