For the purposes of this chapter, a “physically handicapped or crippled child” is one under twenty-one (21) years of age who is deemed “chronically handicapped” by any reason of physical infirmity, whether congenital or acquired, as a result of accident, or disease, that requires medical, surgical, or dental treatment and rehabilitation, and who is or may be totally or partially incapacitated for the receipt of a normal education or for self-support.

[Acts 1929, ch. 60, § 2; Code 1932, § 4748; Acts 1951, ch. 44, § 1; 1961, ch. 41, § 1; T.C.A. (orig. ed.), § 53-1902.]
