§ 16-1-8 Visits of commissioner toschools. – The commissioner of elementary and secondary education shall visit, as often aspracticable, every city and town in the state, for the purpose of inspectingthe schools, and diffusing as widely as possible, by public addresses andpersonal communications with school officers, teachers, and parents, aknowledge of the defects, and of any desirable improvements, in theadministration of the system and the government and instruction of the schools.
