SECTION 16-37-7

   § 16-37-7  Requirement of public schoolteaching services. – Each recipient of the scholarship shall be required to teach in the publicschools of this state for two (2) years for each year of scholarshipassistance. This requirement must be completed within ten (10) years of collegegraduation if the scholarship was used for all four (4) years of college,within eight (8) years if used for three (3) full years of college, within six(6) years if used for two (2) full years of college, and within four (4) yearsif used for one full year of college; provided, however, that a recipient shallbe granted an extension of the requirement upon a showing by the recipient thathe or she:

   (1) Returns to a full time course of study related to thefield of public school teaching or administration;

   (2) Is serving, not in excess of three (3) years, as a memberof the armed forces of the United States;

   (3) Is temporarily totally disabled for a period of time notto exceed three (3) years as established by the sworn affidavit of a qualifiedphysician; or

   (4) Is seeking and unable to find employment in Rhode Islandas a certified public school teacher.
