§ 23-1.3-13 Radiation advisory commission.– There is created an advisory commission to be known as the state radiationadvisory commission which shall consist of eleven (11) members. The commissionmembership shall at all times be limited to members having special expertise inradiation protection and radiological health. One member shall be arepresentative of the Rhode Island atomic energy commission. Membership shallalso include persons representing a physical science or engineering, diagnosticradiology, nuclear medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, industrialradiation protection, and radiologic technology; provided that no more than two(2) individuals shall be specialists in any one field; and provided that atleast one of the eleven (11) members shall be affiliated on a full-time basiswith a voluntary, nonprofit hospital in the state. The members shall beresidents of or work in the state and shall be appointed by the director ofhealth. Each member shall be appointed for a term of four (4) years and untilhis or her successor shall be appointed; provided, that of the originalappointments four (4) shall be appointed for a term of two (2) years, four (4)for a term of three (3) years, and three (3) for a term of four (4) years. Inorder to assure the proper balance of technical skills whenever a vacancy orvacancies occur, the state radiation advisory commission shall submit to thedirector of health for his or her consideration the names of three (3) nomineesfor each vacancy. The members shall receive no compensation for their servicesbut shall receive necessary travel and other expenses while engaged in actualwork of the commission. The administrator shall act as technical secretary tothe commission.
