SECTION 30-31-2

   § 30-31-2  Creation of committee –Members – Vacancies. – (a) There is hereby created a permanent committee on Rhode Island medal ofhonor recipients to consist of nine (9) members of the general public withknowledge of veterans' affairs to be appointed by the governor with the adviceand consent of the senate; provided, however, that:

   (1) Those members of the committee as of the effective dateof this act [March 29, 2006] who were appointed to the committee bymembers of the general assembly shall cease to be members of the committee onthe effective date of this act [March 29, 2006] and the governorshall nominate six (6) new members, each of whom shall serve for the balance ofthe current term of his or her predecessor.

   (2) Those members of the committee as of the effective dateof this act [March 29, 2006] who were appointed to the committee bythe governor shall continue to serve for the duration of their current terms.

   (b) No person shall be eligible for appointment to thecommittee unless he or she is a resident of this state. Vacancies shall befilled in like manner as the original appointments. Members shall serve untiltheir successors are appointed and qualified. The members of the committeeshall be eligible to succeed themselves.

   (c) No person shall be eligible for appointment to thecommittee after the effective date of this act [March 29, 2006]unless he or she is a resident of this state.

   (d) Members of the committee shall be removable by thegovernor pursuant to the provisions of § 36-1-7 and for cause only, andremoval solely for partisan of personal reasons unrelated to capacity orfitness for the office shall be unlawful.
