SECTION 31-22-11.1

   § 31-22-11.1  Enforcement of inspections ofschool buses. – (a) Failure of a school bus to appear for a scheduled inspection shall resultin that school bus registration being immediately suspended. Notification ofthe failure to appear and the suspension order shall be sent to the registeredowner and to the superintendent and the school committee of the district forwhich the bus transports children.

   (b) Failure of a school bus to pass any inspection shallresult in written notice to the registered owner to bring the bus intocompliance within five (5) days or face suspension of the school busregistration. Notification of the failure of the bus to pass inspection shallalso be sent to the superintendent and the school department for which the bustransports children.

   (c) The suspensions shall remain in effect until the timethat the bus passes inspection. No school bus will be used to transportchildren after failing an inspection until the time it is brought intocompliance and passes inspection. Notification that a bus has passed inspectionshall be sent to the registered owner, the school superintendent, and theschool committee for which the bus transports children.

   (d) The division of motor vehicles is authorized to enactsuch rules and regulations as it may deem necessary to enforce this section.
