SECTION 31-3-17

   § 31-3-17  Volunteer fire company plates.– (a) The administrator of the division of motor vehicles shall, upon approvedapplication, issue annually to any member of any duly incorporated volunteerfire company in this state, so long as he or she remains a member of thevolunteer fire company, a special identifying number plate which shall beattached to the motor vehicle of the member of the volunteer fire company inconjunction with the regular number plates assigned to the member of the firecompany at the time of the registration of the vehicle. There shall be a onetime charge of ten dollars ($10.00) for these special number plates, of whichfive dollars ($5.00) shall be deposited to the division of motor vehiclesmanufacturing account. The member of the volunteer fire company shall attachand display the special identifying number plate in accordance with such rulesand regulations as the administrator of the division of motor vehicles shallpromulgate.

   (b) The design of the plates shall be provided by the RhodeIsland Association of Fire Chiefs, and shall be approved by the administratorof the division of motor vehicles.

   (c) Every plate issued shall bear an individual number toidentify the vehicle to which it is attached. The administrator of the divisionof motor vehicles is empowered to promulgate any rules and regulations that arerequired in determining the manner by which the individual numbers will beselected and issued.
