SECTION 31-42-8

   § 31-42-8  Duties of demolishers. –(a) Any demolisher who purchases or otherwise acquires a motor vehicle forpurposes of wrecking, dismantling, or demolition shall not be required toobtain a registration for the motor vehicle in his or her own name. After themotor vehicle has been demolished, processed, or changed so that it physicallyis no longer a motor vehicle, the demolisher shall surrender for cancellationthe registration or auction sales receipt. The state division of motor vehiclesshall issue any forms, rules, and regulations governing the surrender ofauction sales receipts and registrations that are appropriate.

   (b) A demolisher shall keep an accurate and complete recordof all motor vehicles purchased or received by the demolisher in the course ofhis or her business. These records shall contain the name and address of theperson from whom the motor vehicle was purchased or received and the date whenthe purchases or receipts occurred. The records shall be open for inspection byany police department at any time during normal business hours. Any recordrequired by this section shall be kept by the demolisher for at least one yearafter the transaction to which it applies.
