SECTION 31-9-7

   § 31-9-7  Reports by police officers ofthefts and recoveries. – Every proper officer, upon receiving reliable information that any vehicleregistered under this title has been stolen, shall immediately report the theftto the division of motor vehicles unless prior to this discovery informationhas been received of the recovery of the vehicle. Any officer, upon receivinginformation that any vehicle, which was previously reported as stolen, has beenrecovered, shall immediately report the fact of that recovery to his or herdepartment and the division of motor vehicles.
