SECTION 36-8-21

   § 36-8-21  Special commission. – (a) There is hereby created a special commission entitled "Special Commissionto Study the Alteration of the Pension System for New Employees", the purposeof which shall be to study changes to the current state pension system to beapplied to new employees and to report to the governor and to the generalassembly with advice and recommendations as to those changes on or before April1, 1997.

   (b) The commission shall consist of nine (9) members asfollows:

   (1) The director of administration who shall be chairpersonof the commission;

   (2) The governor's policy director;

   (3) One member of the house of representatives as appointedby the speaker of the house;

   (4) One member of the state senate appointed by the majorityleader of the senate;

   (5) One member appointed by the president of the Rhode IslandAFL-CIO who shall be an official of organized labor representing public schoolteachers in Rhode Island;

   (6) One member appointed by the president of the Rhode IslandAFL-CIO who shall be an official of organized labor representing stateemployees; and

   (7) Three (3) members of the public appointed by the governor.

   (c) The commission shall be appointed no later than September1, 1995.

   (d) Members of the commission shall serve withoutcompensation.

   (e) The commission may request and shall receive from anyinstrumentality of the state such information and assistance as it deemsnecessary for the proper execution of its powers and duties under this section.

   (f) The commission shall expire on June 1, 1997.
