SECTION 42-147-1

   § 42-147-1  Commission established. –There shall be an American and Jamaican cultural exchange commission to consistof nine (9) members, all of whom shall be American citizens descended fromJamaican ancestry and residents of the state; three (3) of whom shall beappointed by the speaker of the house of representatives; three (3) of whomshall be appointed by the president of the senate; and three (3) of whom shallbe appointed by the governor. The commission shall establish, maintain, anddevelop cultural ties between Jamaicans and Jamaican-Americans and shall fostera special interest in the historical and cultural background of both groups, aswell as in the economic, political, social, and artistic life of the countriesinvolved; and shall help establish and/or promote the Jamaican language inRhode Island's schools.
