SECTION 42-60.1-1

§ 42-60.1-1  Purpose. – It is declared that the energy wasted by inefficient appliances results inhigher utility bills and hastens the need for new electricity generatingfacilities, and therefore, is a burden to the economic growth and theprosperity of the citizens of the state. Reducing demand for energy is a morecost effective and lower environmental impact strategy than the continuation ofthe current energy use, and therefore it is in the public interest of the stateto establish minimum energy efficiency standards for appliances. Federallegislation already regulates many appliances, but the additional regulation offluorescent light ballasts will greatly reduce our need to expand energyresources.
