SECTION 42-7-7

   § 42-7-7  Transfer of functions from theE-911 uniform emergency telephone system authority to the executive departmentof public safety. – (a) There is hereby transferred to the department of public safety all of thepowers, authority and duties necessary to operate the E-911 uniform emergencytelephone system contained in chapter 21 of title 39.

   (b) The corporate existence of the E-911 uniform emergencytelephone system authority is hereby terminated and all its rights andproperties are hereby vested in the E-911 uniform emergency telephone systemdivision in the department of public safety of the state of Rhode Island.

   (c) In addition to any of its other powers andresponsibilities, the department of public safety is authorized and empoweredto accept any grants made available by the United States government or anyagency thereof, and the division, with the approval of the governor, isauthorized and empowered to perform such acts and enter into all necessarycontracts and agreements with the United States of America or any agencythereof as may be necessary in such manner and degree as shall be deemed to bein the best interest of the state. The proceeds of grants so received shall bepaid to the general treasurer of the state and by him or her deposited in aseparate fund and shall be utilized for the purposes of the grants.

   (d) E-911 uniform emergency telephone system benefits areextremely valuable and this service would be an enhancement to the quality oflife throughout our state.
