SECTION 42-71-1

§ 42-71-1 Commission established. –There shall be an American and Italian cultural exchange commission to consistof nine (9) members, all of whom shall be American citizens descended fromItalian ancestry and residents of the state; three (3) of whom shall beappointed by the speaker of the house of representatives; three (3) of whomshall be appointed by the lieutenant governor; and three (3) of whom shall beappointed by the governor. The commission shall establish, maintain, anddevelop cultural ties between Italians and Italian-Americans; foster a specialinterest in the historical and cultural background of both groups, as well asin the economic, political, social, and artistic life of the countriesinvolved; and shall help establish or promote Italian language programs in theschools of the state.
