SECTION 42-8-24

   § 42-8-24  Permanent commission ongovernment information. – (a) Creation. There is hereby created a permanent state commission ongovernment information.

   (b) Composition. The commission shall consist of ten(10) members: one of whom shall be the governor, or designee; one of whom shallbe the secretary of state, or designee; one of whom shall be from the house ofrepresentatives, to be appointed by the speaker; one to be appointed jointly bythe minority leaders of the house and senate; one of whom shall be from thesenate, to be appointed by the president of the senate; one of whom shall bethe Director of State Library Services, or designee; four (4) of whom shall bepublic members, one to be appointed by the governor, one to be appointed by thesecretary of state, one to be appointed by the speaker of the house ofrepresentatives, and one to be appointed by the president of the senate.

   (c) Purpose. The purpose of said commission shall beto develop and recommend to the general assembly and the secretary of state theimplementation of government information systems that are readily accessible tothe public, coordinate information exchanges between state agencies and developtraining programs for state employees in the use of new technologies.

   (d) Election of chairperson. The commission will electa chairperson from its members.

   (e) Compensation. The members shall receive nocompensation for their service.

   (f) Facilitation of purposes. All departments andagencies of the state shall provide any advice, information, documentation andrecords as the commission deems necessary to facilitate the purposes of thissection.
