SECTION 5-1-3

   § 5-1-3  Board – Membership –Appointments and term. – (a) There is established a board of examination and registration of architects,composed of five (5) architects. Each member of the board must be a qualifiedelector of this state for three (3) consecutive years prior to appointment.Each member of the board shall have engaged in the practice of architecture, asdefined by this chapter, as an individual practitioner, a partner of apartnership or limited liability partnership, an officer or director of acorporation, or a member or manager of a limited liability company engaged inthe practice of architecture, for not less than seven (7) years prior to his orher appointment.

   (b) Each member of the board shall be appointed by thegovernor with the advice and consent of the senate, to serve for a term of five(5) years and until a successor is appointed and qualified. No member of theboard shall be associated in the practice of architecture, either individuallyor as a member of a firm, with any other member of the board.

   In the year 2009, staggered terms shall be implemented asfollows:

   (1) One member is appointed for a period of one year;

   (2) One member is appointed for a period of two (2) years;

   (3) One member is appointed for a period of three (3) years;

   (4) One member is appointed for a period of four (4) years;and

   (5) One member is appointed for a period of five (5) years.

   (c) Vacancies occurring in the membership of the board shallbe filled by the governor, with the advice and consent of the senate, for theunexpired portion of the term. A member appointed for a full term is noteligible for more than two (2) consecutive terms.

   (d) Each member of the board shall take, and subscribe to,the oath of office generally required of state officials.
